Welcome to the Mitochondrial Metabolism and Bioenergetics Laboratory! Our group studies how energy metabolism and metabolic flexibility – the ability to switch between sugar, amino acid, and fatty acid oxidation in response to biological cues – can control cell function and fate. Ultimately, we aim to discover novel regulatory points of metabolism and develop mitochondrial proteins and pathways as therapeutic drug targets.

Congratulations to Dr. Nataly and Dr. Andréa for receiving their PhDs from the department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology! Both are continuing their careers as postdoctoral researchers, and we wish them the best of luck with their future projects! Congratulations to Clarissa as well for completing her undergraduate studies at UCLA. We will miss them but are excited for all they will accomplish as they continue to grow as scientists!
