Congratulations to PhD Candidate, Alex!

Congratulations to 3rd-year graduate student Alex on passing her qualifying exam and advancing to candidacy! Alex will be studying the role of mitochondria in retinal pigment epithelial cells in collaboration with the Williams Lab in the UCLA Stein Eye Institute. We are very proud of Alex and excited to see all she will accomplish as a candidate in the lab!

We want to extend a big welcome to Steven Moreton who will be joining us for the summer from Morehouse School of Medicine. Steven is a fifth year PhD student and will be applying some techniques from our lab to his studies on brown adipocytes.

We want to congratulate Andréa on completing a summer internship at Amgen in South San Francisco in their oncology department! Through her Chemistry-Biology Training grant, Andréa had the opportunity to participate in an industry-sponsored summer internship.

We want to wish congratulations to Anthony as he begins his next chapter as a medical student at UCLA! We are so proud of Anthony for being awarded a full-ride medical school scholarship through L.A. Care’s Elevating the Safety Net Scholarship Program. While he will be greatly missed in lab, we are excited to see him begin his journey towards improving patients’ lives.

We want to extend a big welcome to our three summer trainees. We welcome Taraneh Beikbaghban from the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, supported by the Austrian Marshall Fellowship. We also welcome an Amgen Scholar, Caroline Ceravolo from Western Washington University, and lastly we want to welcome Ayanna Higgins from Clark Atlanta University, supported by the Pathways Program in the UCLA Dept. of Pharmacology.
